What We Do Home Page

How SVSS can help you!

Our volunteers support clients in many meaningful ways, helping seniors and community members remain connected, independent, and supported in daily life.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Providing transportation to medical or personal appointments (typically one appointment per week);

  • Visiting clients for companionship and social connection;

  • Assisting with light yard work and outdoor maintenance;

  • Completing minor home repairs and household tasks;

  • Picking up and delivering food hampers for individuals who are unable to collect them independently;

  • Supporting clients with additional needs on a case-by-case basis.

Onsite Program Volunteers

Onsite volunteers help create welcoming and engaging community programs by:

  • Shopping for, preparing, and serving lunches or teas for monthly programs;

  • Facilitating group activities and discussions;

  • Speaking to groups about travel experiences, hobbies, or areas of personal interest and expertise.

Reception Volunteers

Reception volunteers play an important coordination role by:

  • Booking transportation appointments for clients;

  • Connecting clients with appropriate volunteer services;

  • Assisting clients in accessing support through SVSS programs, staff, and community resources;

  • Providing information and referrals to other agencies and services when needed.

CVITP Volunteers

Through the Canada Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), volunteers provide free income tax preparation assistance to low-income individuals in the Greater Victoria area.

Our organization runs with volunteers and a small core of five staff members.

We accept donations to continue to provide our programs, improve our services, and to ensure we can continue to meet an ever-widening need in our Saanich community.

If you are able to donate, you will receive a charitable tax receipt for donations over $25.

BECOME A CLIENT

Any adult who is living independently within the Municipality of Saanich may be eligible to register for our services.

Registration starts by a visit from someone on our Client Services Team, who will discuss how we can best support you.

“Retirement meant it was time for me to offer my services to organizations where I could make a difference in other people’s lives.

Little did I realize how good it made me feel to help others live a better life because we CARED.”

“The SVSS shopping bus excursion is the highlight of the week for us. Not only do we get the weekly shopping done, with all the help we need, we also get to know like-minded people.

To meet others is extremely important for every one’s mental well-being. We look forward to our weekly adventure, combining pleasure with the necessities of life.”
