Become a Client

Our clients must be adults living independently within the Municipality of Saanich. We facilitate neighbours supporting neighbours using volunteer help so our clients can continue to live healthy, connected lives in the community.

How We Support Clients

Food-Security-Heart.png

Food Security

Our volunteers help with grocery shopping and food hamper delivery.

We also offer clients bus rides to a local mall so that they can do their own shopping with volunteer assistance.

Social-Connection.png

Social Connection

We offer a range of social programs to help foster community.

We match volunteers with clients to organize friendship calls and visits, invite attendance to a Macular Degeneration/ Low Vision group, our Tea and Talk Group, a walking group and our Men's Group.

Healthy Living

We promote healthy living by providing safe transport to clients' appointments.

Our volunteer receptionists will match client drive requests with a vetted volunteer driver for safe transportation to appointments.

Financial Support

We provide a free tax filing service through the Canada Revenue Agency so clients  continue to receive current financial support from the government. Our volunteers have pioneered a CRA-approved over-the-phone program.

What Our Clients Say

INCOME TAX CLIENT

I wish to THANK your members for many kindnesses in recent months. A dear lady did my Income Tax via phone and I had immediate notice of a little refund.

In these nonagenarian years I find my days are brightened by kind/thoughtful people. BLESSINGS on all

SHOPPING BUS CLIENT

The SVSS shopping bus excursion is the highlight of the week for us. Not only do we get the weekly shopping done, with all the help we need, we also get to know like-minded people.

To meet others is extremely important for every one’s mental well-being. We look forward to our weekly adventure, combining pleasure with the necessities of life.

ELIGIBILITY

Any adult who is living independently within the Municipality of Saanich may be eligible to register for our services. Registration starts with a call from our Client Services Coordinator, Sharon Parker, who will contact you to set up an initial, in home consult to assess how our services may assist you.

PREPARED MEAL DELIVERY CLIENT
(please note this program is now suspended until funding is secured)

The meals are really tasty. It's a delight to have people like you in the community...SVSS fills a void in my life.

Garden

GARDENING CLIENT

I would like to thank you for the services last week. The volunteer was able to reach the weeds in areas that I cannot get. As there are numerous such areas we look forward to help again.

FRIENDSHIP PHONE CALL CLIENT

This is a note of appreciation for my volunteer.  She has been so loyal, helpful and devoted.  She is indeed an invaluable friend.  I am most grateful for her help and practical wisdom and judgement. Thank you for matching her up with me.

REFERRAL & REGISTRATION

Our client program runs with self referral, health care referral, or community referral by phone, fax, or e-mail.

Upon referral, telephone contact will be made to confirm eligibility followed by a required one-on-one home visit with our client coordinator to complete the registration for services.

This visit will include a discussion of assistance required and information will be shared on other available community services.

Personal data, emergency contacts, and information on health, mobility, and other support services being received are collected during the registration process.
