Louise, 10 Year Volunteer Companion

Louise has been a volunteer driver, member of our volunteer advisory council, companion visitor and friendly phone caller with us for 10 years.

"I wanted to do something that would support the community. I particularly enjoy helping elderly people." - Louise

"I am a companion to a 96 year old lady and she certainly appreciates our weekly visits. With COVID I'm phoning her every week.

It's really terrific, the work that Saanich Volunteers does. They provide such terrific programs for seniors and you meet just wonderful people. The appreciation that you receive for the little things that you do: you offer them an arm to get in and out of the car, you sit with them if they're in the hospital and they're nervous about having an x-ray or a scan or something.

So it's a real joy to be able to give back to the community and I thoroughly enjoy seniors. Their stories are terrific. All they want is just a little conversation and it goes so far."

-Louise
